"How To" Rebuild a 1979 - 1981 Trans Am Fuel Door Hinge VIDEO!

This 7 minute "How To" video shows how to rebuild and mount the fuel door on a 1979 - 1981 Trans Am. Also shown is a cool interchange to add a custom fuel door bird for 1981 owners!

From what I can tell, the OEM graphic for the fuel door was chrome.  You can't get those from Phoenix Graphix, AFAIK.

After seeing that video, I'm thinking about going with the Orange (2nd Version) sail panel bird in my fuel door, to match what the car originally came with (and what it will eventually have again...).

You can buy a new fuel door with the silver inlay (just like stock we have them here:

For the guy on a burget or looking to have more "flow" with the other birds on the car we can get you a sail panel bird to fit right in there too in all of the factory colors.

I have a brand new door it just does not have the decal or what ever goes in the middle.  It has the inlay area
but its black so I have not installed it.

avew,
Not sure I am following you, you have the new fuel door with the housing for the fuel door bird but did not come with the emblem?  Who did you buy the unit from?

Either way if that is the case you can simply order a sail panel bird from us and install it into the area where the emblem should sit. Note the recess when using a plain sail panel bird. A way to over come this is to use a small piece of plexiglass behind the sail panel bird to extend the spacing out. We did not do this as that recess did not bother me at all.

do you still have the nuts from the video to hold the door onto the mounting bracket?  Looked on the website and did not find them.

Thanks
