I don't think they have the data on how many of each color they produced.  Yellow is historically the lowest produced color.  Heritage brown looked great with camel interior.  However, I don't believe the color is all that popular today...it was back in the day though.  But a 1979 four speed is a desirable car.  Good luck.  I hope you get it.

Correct, they did not keep track of colors. The 4 speed cars are only 8000 or so, out of a production run of 117,000, so I would say it is rare anyways.

Actually it was 8,326 T/A's and 367 Formula's with the W72 performance package (John Witzke).  With the T/A being the more desirable of the two.

Black looks good with camel interior.  Lots of these cars got repainted black.  Heritage brown can look ratty as it ages and when it's dirty.  But when the paint is in good shape and the car is clean....heritage brown looks really good...especially with gold snowflake wheels.  I had a brown 78.  My daughter has a brown 77.  Now I have black on black.  I kinda like that the best.  Although gold is awfully nice.  Actually, there isn't a color I don't like.  The second generation birds are timeless.

that is how this one is gold snowflakes and i have seen some nicely restored brown ones and they look really nice and being a 400 4 speed it would be nice to keep it oringnal but i guess i am not going to worry about it if the guy decides he whats more money for it

I remember seeing alot of brown ones back in those years, so I don't think the color is rare at all. It's a nice color on them with the gold decals and wheels and tan interior.

Wasn't there some mention of a formal agreement that Jeri wouldn't get any more birds for the time being???

Thanks, Brian...I'm on it.  ;)
NO, Jeri....the answer is NO! :-X

Also, I wouldn't paint it black if you buy it...keep it as is. Everyone seems to think a bird has to be a T/A and it has to be black. The hobby seems to be getting crowded with clones and everyone wants black.....  the movie didn't create T/A's...it just made them more popular. The car was  beautifully designed before "Smokey and the Bandit" and it's still great 30+ years later.

Whether or not brown was a "rare" factory color, it may be now all things considered...

But...your car, your choice... ;D
