Will new stiffer springs work?
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:17:21 PM »
Now that January is here, I need to come up with a plan to get my T/A driving when spring starts.  I put a set of long tube headers on my 400 after it was rebuilt.  It seems that I'm dragging them as I go over pretty minor dips in the road.  I don't notice these dips in my other cars.  I think the it's the flange connecting the headers to the reducers.  I have about 5.5 inches of ground clearance at the flange.  I have them turned to make sure the wider bolt holes are not pointed down.  I have changed the shocks out last year.  The springs are probably still the stock 403 ones.

Will a stiffer spring help control the bottoming out?  I know some of you have mentioned that new springs have raised the nose a bit.  If springs will help, which ones do I look for?  I have no idea how else to cure this, other than putting the stock manifolds back on.  I'd probably have a shop do it.  I don't feel like messing with lifting the engine back up.
Yes, it is a 79 Y84 SE.  It's in disguise as a base T/A.
