Casting Code?

XE = Engine code    what is the # above it?   Casting Code?   I can't find any info on it....Help

Is that the front of the block?
Typically the partial VIN of the original vehicle is very near the engine code (XE in this case) on front of block.

the other set of #s is a production #.  you wont find any info from it.   the vin is on that same side , only down by the center of the timing cover.

the casting #  is on the same side on the back of the block by the head and the year is under the distributor.  so with the casting # , block code and date  you should be able to find what your looking for

I want to say it like a barcode you see today on parts.    what its for? really no clue.  maybe just a way for them to know where its stored.  I dont think the vin went on until it was at the car.
